External software

SprezzOS is not allowed to redistribute some software, and in rare cases chooses to support, but not include, closed-source software.

Reasons for exclusion

  • If a program may not be redistributed in any form due to licensing restrictions, SprezzOS cannot redistribute it.
  • If a program may not be redistributed in binary form, SprezzOS can, at best, build it on the local machine
    • Note that ZFS on Linux is *not* thus restricted
    • It simply cannot be redistributed as part of a binary kernel package
  • If a program may not be redistributed in source form, SprezzOS can, at best, put it in the blobs repository
